What is an Eclipse

What is an Eclipse they say? Well let me tell you what it is. An Eclipse is when something goes in front of another thing. Like when it's sunny you cover your eyes with your hand, that means you are eclipsing the
Sun. That is just an example, now moving on!

Eclipsing the Sun. This is how the Moon Eclipses the Sun. When the Moon  slowly comes in front of the Sun, a solar eclipse occurs. Once the Moon is in the center of the Sun then the Sun looks like a black circle with a halo but it’s not a halo it’s the Sun’s atmosphere. As the Moon slowly crosses the Sun’s face the Sun shines again. Solar eclipses only occur when the Sun, Moon and Earth all line up in a straight line.

Moon Shadows. During a Solar eclipse the Moon casts its shadow on Earth. The Moon shadow has two parts: a small dark part called the umbra, and a larger and lighter part called the penumbra surrounding the umbra. From Earth you will see a solar eclipse if you are either the umbra or the penumbra of the Moon shadow.

Whole or part?
If you are in the umbra then you will get to see the total eclipse of the Sun. But if you were  the penumbra you will only see part of the eclipse. In the total eclipse the Moon covers the whole Sun until it looks like a black circle with a halo and as I said it isn’t a halo it is the Sun’s atmosphere.

Lunar eclipse. A lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon moves into the Earth's shadow. This can occur only when the Sun, Earth, and Moon are exactly or very closely lined up. With Earth between the Sun and Moon, during a total lunar eclipse During a total lunar eclipse, Earth completely blocks direct sunlight from reaching the Moon.

Persuasive Writing - Plastic bags

Plastic bags should be banned

Although not everybody would agree, I want to say that Plastic Bags should be BANNED!

If plastic bags are not put in the right place after use, it might end up in the ocean. When the turtles might think that it is jellyfish which is their favourite food and they will eat it. Once they eat it they will come up to the surface DEAD!!

I have several other reasons for arguing this point of view. My first reason is that plastic bags or any kind of rubbish will end up in the ocean or in the landfill if they are not disposed of correctly. Therefore it is very important to dispose of these things in the correct places.

My second reason is that plastic bags can be very very dangerous to very little children. Children are very playful so if they see a plastic bag they would just grab it and pretend it is a kite or put it over their head which could cause suffocation if their heads stay inside the plastic bag too long. If there were no plastic bags at all, then this problem would never come up and we will not lose any children.

My last reason is that every time I walk out of the shop the plastic bag rips by the handle or down the bottom and then the groceries fall,  and some of the groceries become rubbish and it adds to the environmental pollution.

Therefore some people might argue that plastic bags should not be banned  but I strongly believe that plastic bags should be banned if you consider the reasons I have discussed. I am sure everyone will say no to plastic bags and start using reusable bags that will not pollute our environment.

Week 1 term 1 of 2020

Week 1 of term 1 - 2020

Hi my name is Paisha. My first day of school was scary because I had a new teacher and class.

This year I am in Room 10 and my teacher is Mr. Nath. I am in year 6 now. I am very nervous to be in Room 10 because I am going to be working with new people and teacher.

My goal for this year is to become much more smarter in math and all the other subjects. I would also like to learn about Hydrology in science this year.
